My Breast Reduction

From a very early age the only role model of the female anatomy

I saw was my mother.

She was a small woman but had large breasts which made her look heavy.

What did I know I was a child?

I thought it was normal for a woman to have large breasts.

After I had my second child my breasts became large.

They hung downward in an unattractive stance.

But I did nothing about this, except to purchase large,

expensive bras with a DD cup, wires and stays.

The DD cup was not large enough and the wires and stays hurt my ribs.

My posture was forever destroyed. I began to have rounded shoulders.

I never once thought having large breasts were unusual

since my mother was built the same way.

I did not know about a breast reduction.

All I ever heard about was breast implants.

It seemed the media screamed this information

to all the unsuspecting women.

Bigger is better. I did not think bigger was better.

I had an uncomfortable fitting bra, neck, back pain,

bad posture and my ribs were killing me.

One day I went to pick up my daughter at a friends home.

She opened my eyes to the fact of a breast reduction.

She told me she had one done and it was the best thing

she had ever done for herself.

I was working for a doctor at the time,

and I found out about a plastic surgeon who had an office in my building.

I made an appointment with him.

I was told by my friends to make sure the plastic surgeon was board certified.

Not only was this doctor board certified but he was head of surgery at the hospital.

I had my breast reduction surgery performed within the month.

It was the best thing I have ever done for myself.

I like to swim and for years I did not swim because

I could not find a swimsuit which would fit me on the top.

Clothes I could not wear before because they did not fit

or made me feel large and conspicuous were now within my reach.

I can go outside of my home without a bra and nobody can tell the difference.

It has made a big difference in my life.

I certainly encourage any woman who is large breasted to have a breast reduction performed.

With woman and cancer, it is easier to detect breast cancer in a breast of a smaller proportion.

Truthfully, I can tell women of today

 bigger is not better.
