Yes it is easy to be depressed during the holidays.
Even if you have a family or somebody in your life.
You can be depressed about the extra money you will need to get you thru the holidays. The social obligations which seem to go on forever.
You can be depressed about the artificial meaning we give to Christmas now.
But if you are alone it is worse. Depression can really hit hard and fast. This is the time of the year to try and be with others. If not your family, somebody. Try to connect to something. Thinking about past Christmas holiday when the kids were small and you were frazzled trying to get all the last minute shopping, wrapping, cooking and baking done had a reason. When you are older and the family has grown up and have their own family it can get depressing.
The best way to get out of depression is to help somebody else. Whatever, your problem, medical, financial there is always somebody else worse off.
Volunteer for something. At church their is always a need for volunteers at this time of year. At nursing homes their is always a need for a volunteer.
When you stop thinking about how alone and depressed you are and reach out your hand and help somebody else, you will have your Christmas.
