 I do not go looking for this but it pops into my hearing and conversation almost with every person I know. Why do I keep getting asked these questions? Why do people ask me about this all the time? Is it because they know I have worked in Medical Insurance Billing for almost 20 years. Or is this the case that the medical care and insurance have been sliced apart. How do we fix is?

This is asked by the most highly educated to the  barely educated. I do not know but I am only one person. Asking the experts do not get us anywhere either. The people you need to ask are the people in the medical field who work in medicine and the billing part. We need to put the practice of medicine back into the hands of the medical provider and not in the hands of the insurance company.

I started typing on manual typewriters. I progressed to electric typewriters and now I type on computers. With being a fast typist my hands and wrists take the blunt of keying. I have had several hand surgeries. Typing on a keyboard means PAIN for me. I am not alone. I see people everywhere with their hands in splints.

 Having to working on a computer for so many years I found that placing a pad under my keypad really helped reduce the pain. Think of pounding your hand against a stone wall.  I found a pad made out of a specific material and called it Love My Hand Pad. Using this pad is the only way I was able to work for so many years pounding my hand against a stone wall. In my e book Stop Computer Pain I talk of pain in sitting in your chair, your monitor and various other ways to put your body into constant pain. I can not tell you how terrified I was about public speaking. The thought of standing up and speaking in front of people terrified me, but I did it. I remember giving my first speech and shaking in my shoes. My eyes were focused on the wall straight ahead. I did not make eye contact with anyone. 

Now after being in Toastmasters for almost 3 years I love getting up and speaking. As I had more and more speeches under my belt, I found to my surprise I was believing in myself. My self-esteem soared.  I started using vocal variety and actually doing a little acting out.

This is what Toastmasters did for me. With each speech I was actually growing as a person and a speaker. I can not tell you everything Toastmasters did for me. I just know I do not want to leave Toastmasters. Linda Meckler, author Ghost Kids Trilogy

The expert in removing dead animals arrived on Monday morning. I was never so happy to see anybody in my life. He crawled under my Mobile Home and made a discovery.  The animal which was causing such a stench inside my home was a dead rat. It was also on the outside wall in the middle of my electrical cables. He could not remove the animal because of the electrical complication, but also he would need to cut out the outside panel. He could have cut the rat out if it would have been on an inside panel. He opened the skirting on both sides of my Mobile Home for ventilation.

He told me to leave them open during the day and close them during the night. He said that the smell would probably last another 2 weeks. But with good ventilation underneath the smell inside would greatly diminish. We walked around and he inspected the skirting around my Mobile Home. He put wire across a small hole where the rat jumped in and told me to get some liquid foam. I was happy I had left this problem to an expert.

He told me in all the animals he had removed from under Mobile Homes there was only 2 he could not remove and mine was one of them. Let me hear from you. Have you ever had a dead animal smelling up your garage, or home? Linda Meckler, Author Ghost Kids Trilogy

I first started smelling a strange odor 2 weeks ago. I did not know what it was and I tried to ignore the smell. The smell only got stronger until it reached the point where I had to bring in the big guns. My son came over and he check out my house thoroughly. I wanted to know if I had another leak and what I was smelling was wood rot. Thankfully, it was not wood rot.  

We went to the back of my Mobile Home where the stench was radiating from and removed the skirting. The smell was worse under the house. Yes, it was a dead animal., we could tell by the strong smell. Looking in with flashlights, we did not see the dead animal. We had a good view.

 Two years ago I had a dead skunk removed and a dead possum.  I called the man who had removed the other animals but unfortunately he could not drop everything and come to my rescue. He expained this animal was probably hidden somewhere above ground and finding it would require and experienced person. Part of my Mobile Home would have to be cut out in order to locate this creature. They love to hide in high, hard to locate places. It may take quite a while to actually locate the body.  I made the decision to wait for the expert.

In December of 2005 my Church held its annual Christmas Craft Fair. I did not sign up since it was a craft fair, which to me meant things made by hand. A friend of mine, a fantastic seamstress, asked me if I wanted to share her table. I immediately said yes. The tables were set up outdoors inside a large tent. The tent was jammed with tables of every kind of homemade items and also store items for sale. The church was putting on an electronic extravaganza, while also performing a play. 

I was at the entrance to the tent hidden behind all kinds of merchandise. I did not have any signs or a large picture of my book. I just had a stack of my books, “Ghost Kids Trilogy,” myself, and my voice. There were no other books for sale in the tent. I asked each person as they walked around from table to table if they had any children. If the person was older I asked them if they had any grandchildren. I made it a point to tell them, that grandparents were very involved in my book plot, and that this book was a positive family relationship.

If children were walking around by themselves in the age range of eight to fourteen, I gave them a flyer describing the story and characters in my book and asked them to bring their parents back so they could see my book. I was always told that the author is the person who has the passion to sell their own book. In this case it worked. Over two weekends of six hours a day, I sold (70) of my books. My books retailed for $11.95 and I sold them for an even $10.00.  Many of the parents bought two books for presents for other children.  

I was really amazed when one woman wanted to give me $20.00 to sign my book to her personally. I told her there was no charge for me signing my book. She had made me feel special.  Even though I belonged to this Church, most of the thousands of people who walked through the craft show were complete strangers to me. One woman, who did not have any children, bought my book to donate to her local library. I want to thank Infinity Publishing for making it possible for me to see my words in a published book.  I met Woody on Sat. February 9, 2008 at the Ronald Reagan Presidental Museum. I was on the patio and I noticed the staff was setting up tables and even had a red carpet. I kew something big was brewing. I walked over to this nice gentleman sitting on a bench. I asked him what was going on.

He told me there was going to be a dinner there that evening in honor of the Medal of Honor recipients. There were still 106 alive. 40+ going to be at the dinner. There were going to be 900 people at this big event.

I was really overwhelmed at meeting such a war hero. I immediately went home and looked him up on the web. What an exciting person.

He was born in 1923 in W. Virginia. His famous day was on Feb. 23, 1945 in Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. He saved numerous lives on that day which earned him the Medal of Honor. This medal was only received by less than 4000 people since the Civil war.

He is really a hero and I am glad to have met him.

I can’t tell you how pleased I am that you chose to write to us and relate this wonderful story about a very humble man.

Woody’s story was recently on (I believe) the History Channel and during his interview I decided that his story should be told within these pages for those who may have missed it on TV.

We try to highlight other “War Remembrances” as often as possible, since some of the stories of our men and women in uniform are truly remarkable.
